- Massively built with a 1/2 " carbon steel door and a 1/4" carbon steel body, these floor safes are designed to be permanently buried in cement in a basement or garage concrete slab. Floor safes can be installed by framing out an opening prior to pouring the slab or an opening can be cut into the slab by a knowledgeable contractor using a saw or electric jack hammer.
- The locking mechanism is a Group type combination lock with a built in spring loaded relocking device to deter forcible entry by actually double locking the lock's bolt in the event of an attack. Our floor safes also contain a secondary relocking device attached separately to the boltwork, which is spring loaded when attacked is designed to force itself into the Boltwork so that the door can't be thrown open.
Very serious security, indeed.
- It is recommended that the floor safe be installed in an out of the way spot, so that it is less likely to be attacked. Once attacked, floor safe repairs can be expensive so it's desireable to avoid, plus it just adds to your security. Once buried under a concrete slab, the floor safe takes on a high level of fire resistance as well. The heat of a fire rises in exactly the opposite position of where the safe is installed. The supplied cover plate which serves to hide the safe, also creates a pocket of air beween the safe door and the cover plate which helps to keep the contents of the safe cooler, as well.(Cover plate is for floor safe concealment only and is not designed to be walked on)
All in all, a buried floor safe is the best of both worlds. Incredible burglary protection when properly located and installed
as well as fire protection equal or better to that of many free standing fire safes.
